S/PA Students are All Stars

Students and Mentors Gather for New Event

National Mentoring Month (Jan) was capped off for us at S/PA with an exciting new event hosted by the All Stars Project in Newark on Sat, Jan 30. Walking into the event, students and mentors were equally perplexed about what was about to happen, since this was something very new and different from our usual, community service events.

Under the direction of Gloria Strickland, Carlos Javier, Haniyyah and staff, the two hours flew by with everyone agreeing that they were so glad that they had come! The program is designed to let people enjoy themselves, learn about others and experience the value of “YES” and openness in dealing with people throughout life.

New friends were made and partner/mentor relationships were strengthened. “This was totally unlike what I expected”, said one long-time mentor, “but this is the type of experience that everyone, regardless of gender, age or position in life, can benefit from”.

The All Stars Project offers no-cost programs for students in middle and high school. Theatrics and leadership are the focus of two popular programs. Any partners/mentors who think their mentee might be interested in the program should go online to:allstars.org
